I used to love knitting but haven't done it in years. You make me want to dig out my needles!😀

Rather than telling us it does not matter which direction we wind the yarn in the cast on, it would be more useful to tell us which wrapping direction will produce properly mounted stitches. While it is convenient you can just knit them correctly by inspecting the stitch for its leading leg, it would be infinitely easier to know that you have already mounted them correctly by wrapping in the proper direction each time. Looks like I need to find another video that will explain this.

Thank you, Judy! I heard your cast-on method mentioned in a video by Elise Rose Crochet, so I went hunting on youtube. I initially found several videos by other content providers and watched them all, but was left feeling somewhat confused. Today I was delighted when your video happened to pop up in my feed, as if by "magic." After watching it, I have a much better grasp of what I'm doing and why it works. Nothing like getting it straight from the source! Your explanation was as clear as a bell, and I have a much better understanding now as to what to look for when it comes to knitting stitches off the needles for the first round. I'm new to knitting and oftentimes things seem much more confusing than they actually are, but your video was straight-forward and instructive and I feel confident that I can proceed with doing my first-ever Judy's Magic Cast-On. Thanks again! <3

Dear Lady, thank you SO much for this demonstration. I was struggling along with diagrams in a book, trying to knit my first toe up socks - plus being a left handed person who was taught to knit right handed - when I suddenly thought of UA-cam ! I am very grateful to you for this easy to understand film.

Thank you again for your help and support. I think I know what to do but loose confidence and luckily you come to my rescue. Such a clever cast on and not just for socks but I made a cotton bag for carrying vegetables and used your cast on. Thanks again.

ATTENTION BEGINNER KNITTERS. I’m a beginner too--starting my first pair of socks. I watched this cast-on video and it’s VERY MEAN and will have you questioning your sanity. Here’s why: Judy spends the first 7 minutes explaining a few things. First, you drape the yarn over the top needle so that the tail is in the front, working yarn in the back. Then you pick up the yarn so that the tail is over your pointer finger, and the working yarn is over your thumb, basically twisting the yarn. Cool, no issues here. At 7:00 minute mark, Judy starts her cast-on showing this. You get to see the whole cast-on, with all the stitches on the bottom needle being made by the tail yarn, and all the stitches on the top needle being made by the working yarn. It’s super easy to see because of the rainbow yarn she’s using. Now, there is a cut in the video just after 8:10 and suddenly, AS JUDY IS EXPLAINING WHAT TO DO WITH THE TAIL WHEN YOU TURN YOUR WORK, her tail is attached to the top stitches, and the working yarn is attached to the bottom stitches. You probably didn’t notice, because Judy made sure to realign her rainbow yarn so that yellow and blue stitches are showing still. Friends, do you know how long I struggled to understand what to do with the tail, why I wasn’t able to turn my work the way she did? This was a very mean trick. If you are a beginner, use the Turkish Cast On instead; Andrea Mowry has a great video on it.

This is the best video for JMCO! I like that you explain it does not matter which direction the yarn is wrapped because it is the next row of knitting those wrapped stitches that remounts the stitches! This stitch is your namesake .... well done!!!

I have watched this so many times and am still confused about one point - at the beginning (first cast on round) the tail end goes onto the pointer finger and is used as the top yarn which makes a stick on the bottom needle. After the second cast on it looks as though the tail end is used to make the top stitch - especially seem when showing how the tail end hangs and is brought around the second yarn just before starting to knit the fist row. What am I not getting ????

Really like this demonstrations using the two different needles and the variegated colored yarn, again this added to the clarity of this instructional video. I keep this in my library and refer to it often. Thank you thank you for this “magic cast on” Judy!!!
